Why did I not see this entry until today? One of your finest, with whimsical soundtrack. Your voice is so luscious and dry--how do you bring *that* trick off?--that I shall have to listen to future posts. And, of course, the gift of your glorious words... happy birthday, indeed!

Thank you! How nice that you've left such a lovely comment about Spatchcock's birthday on my *actual* birthday! As to how my voice got that way, I'll just chalk it up to a whiskey and cigarette-filled youth.

Finally listened to this, sorry for the delay. Boring life reasons. Congratulations on your birthday! 🎉 Shared with my late father’s birthday, so I am a celebrator of the ides of March. As a total Daddy’s girl, I look for all reasons to celebrate on his birthday (he was a kind and loving man), I am glad that the rebirth of your writing is another thing we can celebrate.

Amy, I am absolutely horrified that I did not see this (absolutely lovely) comment for two whole months! I must have missed the notification. Anyway, I wanted to say I am glad I share a day with such an important person.

No need to be horrified. Appreciate the kindness. And lovely to relive the moment. ❤️

That was lovely. And revealing. And brave. And joyful. Nicely done, Sir.

And of course I have re-subscribed for another year!

I don't see it as particularly brave, but I'm delighted by the thought it's joyful. And so happy about the re-subscription!

Spatchcock shares its birthday with my son. You can almost guarantee I'll always remember to wish you well on March 15. Lucky you. xx

Lucky me! You've just reminded me that my friends' anniversary is coming up soon-- I married them on April Fool's Day.

What an absolutely wonderful thing to say. Thank you, sir!

Belated felicitations!! I confess I rarely click on a "listen" button when there is the option to read so I'm very glad you made it "the" way to "read" this time. I enjoyed hearing you and, as always, I loved what you shared...and the totally cool tunes/soundtrack.

Oh, I'm so glad, vicki! And my friend Jay will be, too, since he added the soundtrack.

Happy birthday to Spatchcock. Substack, and the world, are better off for your writing--and your audio. Looking forward to Year #2 xo

Aww shucks, Domenica. Thank you. [Author shyly looks down at his feet, kicks a small pebble, and blushes.]

Perhaps you have spatchcocked a Phoenix? 🔥 Love your writing (and your voice!) ❤️

Phoenixes are really hard to source and tend to be ashen on the tongue. I'm more of an Enchanted Cornish Game Hen man myself. I'm glad you found my little corner of Substack because you're fun.

— Happiest of birthdays to Spatchcock! Love the audio! I would've bought Spatchcock a gift, but, as I learned the hard way, pretty much everything is a potential choking hazard to toddlers, even tasteful little baubles from Tiffany's.

He's really just happy with worms, pebbles, and the throats of rival roosters.
